Did anyone hear from arts and sciences?
Just got BSc and BEng (chemical) admission letter. I got in! International student, 95% and 8.5 Ielts.
Great job! Engineering is extremely competitive.
DD is in but having a hard time choosing between Life Sciences at Mac vs. Sciences downtown. Also got in to Arts and sciences but more drawn to the first two. Welcome any insight! also considering Queens in Kingston… down to the wire!
My daughter was not impressed by the MacDonald campus when she visited. She seemed to think that it was run down. Downtown Montreal is probably a more interesting place to live for four years, although I am pretty sure that there are buses going back and forth.
I have heard very good things about Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. I would take it very seriously.
In terms of getting a very good education, I would consider Queen’s to be on the same level as McGill, which is a very high level.
Have you had a chance to visit all three campuses?
Did you decide? McGill and Queen’s are so different in terms of vibe. Queen’s has a college town vibe, big football days, fraternities, lots of drinking and partying, also frisbee along the lake etc. Much more like a classic college in a college-town experience from a US point of view. McGill is large, in the middle of downtown, attracts the kind of people who do not want the Queen’s/small college town experience. They are more interested in being adults in a cosmopolitan city, are on average more academic, and do not want a campus life dominated by football games and fraternities. Even the style is different: you will see far more pyjamas and sweatpants at Queen’s than McGill. They are both very good schools, although reputation-wise they do not compare. For program, I’d take downtown, or if at Mac, first year there in their dorms, and then move with friends downtown.
