Hi, my DD is interested in the Bioengineering major. She wants to take a premed track and is concerned with McGill’s grade deflation. What was your daughter’s experience with it? Was she able to obtain a good GPA in Bioeng? did she like the program? Thanks!!!
It depends on a lot of things!
Is your daughter a US student? Does she want to do med school in US or Canada?
If in the US, where in the US may be important. Northeastern universities are much more familiar with McGill and its grading.
Not sure what you called a good GPA for med school admission.
My daughter finished December 2023 with a GPA of 3.8. For this, she worked hard but also, had a fun time in Montreal. So much, she is seriously thinking of staying there.
She enjoyed the program and is now enrolled in a BME Masters still at McGill. She had excellent research experience in a couple of labs and also TA positions!
Most of her friends in BioEng who have graduated are now in graduate program all over Canada and some in US, mainly Masters and PhD (not med school) but, this is the sample of friends I know!
Hope this helps…don’t hesitate to DM with specific questions.
