Well, first off, if you’re considering trying out for the team, you should note that Canadian and American football are slightly different from one another. It mostly has to do with small things like the size of the field and how many players per team. You can read more about it here:

Also, you should note that Canada is still very much a Hockey-loving country. I’m sure that there’s pretty good attendance at McGill’s football games, but it’s probably nothing like attendance at their hockey games.

it’s interesting to me how a large university in a hockey-crazy country can have such a small ice hockey rink! seriously, there are very very few seats.

in Massachusetts, teams like BU have arenas that rival NHL arenas. I guess this is just another tragic example of lack of funding… they probably have the same rink they did in 1930 (it’s really old but, to give them credit, is in good condition for its age).

No. Canada is hockey mad. But with the exception of a couple of schools, usually the ones in small towns, college sport culture does not exist to the same degree that it does in the United States.

In all the world, only the US has the big media-corporate-college athletics connection. Do not expect to see big time non-student athletes in any Canadian school. Teams and games are important, but kept in perspective to why students are really at McGill. In Montreal, see the Canadians if you want the feel you might get at an Ohio State football game or UNC basketball game. In Canada, the feeling is that it important for all students to play intramural sports and/or work out rather than a just few talented athletes making large amounts of revenue for the college or television networks.
