i bet mcgill’s theatre department isnt anything to brag about because its hard to find stuff on it, but i was wondering if anybody knew anything about it. also, i want to know if students who are not music majors can participate in music ensembles like the symphony orchestra and such.

hey there.
we have four independent student theatre groups here. The theater spaces we have on campus are two black-boxes (Morrice and Players’) and a mainstage (Moyse). Though one cannot get a BFA in theatre here, you can major in Drama as a BA (it’s actually an english degree with drama attached to it). The student theatre scene is quite active, with two mainstage productions put on a year, plus two musicals (this year: Iolanthe, and Little Shop of Horrors), and then the independent companies (Players’ and TNC) put on 5-6 shows a year- all student directed. Despite the lack of a set program the scene is quite active!

I’m a music major and yes you can audition for all ensembles in the music faculty- auditions are screened so that means even if you’re not a music major you will still be up for the same spots as music majors (I’ve seen a BA student get 4th violin chair in orchestra!)
