McGill University Class of 2029 Official Thread

Yep I applied bioengineering. :frowning:. Thank you for the info, but whew, it did not ease my mind! Can you point me to where you found your acceptance numbers? I can find the number of students applied and enrolled, but not accepted.

This is what has been reported from my daughter and her friends in engineering. Some may come from TAs or staff or simply by students readily accepted in chem /mech eng before bioeng. This is NOT an official source.
As I said, this is from 2019 and a lot can change. At the time, they accepted a very small class and it was a new’ish program!

I think you have good chances but not a safety.

My kid, International Student, was accepted into College of Arts & Science earlier this evening (1/30). They are LGBTQ+ and given what is currently unfolding in the US, we feel they need to leave. Their twin, similar stats is still waiting.

Congratulations! What is the stats for your accepted children and when was the application submitted if I may ask? My son is also international and still waiting…

My twins have similiar stats (yup identical)

My twin who was accepted 4.1/4.3 uwgpa 34 Act & 1490 SAT (710 math 780 verbal) 5aps (all 5s) and 4 in progress
Twin waiting. 4.15/4.3 uwgpa, 1510 SAT one and done (710m 800v) 3APs (all 5s) and 3 in progress. No AP/honors math. Currently in Cal 1, not Ap.

I will add that my twin accepted has 4 years of French and attended McGill summer academy for neuropsych do they have a relationship with the school. The latter may have got them in a bit faster.

My daughter got accepted into Faculty of Arts 1/30, and just heard that she got a major entrance scholarship today, 2/11. But she also applied for Faculty of Science (which is what she’s hoping to get into) and is still waiting to hear. She has a 3.9 GPA, 33 ACT; we’re Canadian citizens living in the US. Hoping to hear about the Faculty of Science soon!

Hi. Have you heard any updates for your other child from Mcgill? My son’s application status has been “in review” for like 2 months now..

We have not heard. I’m starting to get concerned.

We just got some more information (2/13) – my daughter was admitted to Faculty of Science BS program

The 1540 should be enough! I really think you will get in EASILY! My daughter just got into Desautels and that was with a 1440. She had a 4.37 weighted and 3.97 u/w. I think she was 7th of 460 kids. I would bet cash you will get into Engineering! DEFINATELY submit that 1540. My daughter is also full IB but they accepted her unconditionally with the 1440 and her US diploma. She also had a ton of APs and Honors classes. I htink they are really looking at your course rigor and SAT!

Ours was in-review for ages. My daughter applied the first date possible.. was that October? She submitted her grades from first quarter in November. We finally heard back last week but to both programs and she got in. Her top choice was Desautels. If you submitted SAT I have heard that you hear back earlier..often they want the IB diploma or further grades if you don’t submit SAT. (This is hear-say, but we did submit SAT for this reason).

Thats AMAZING! HUGE congrats on the scholarship! I think she is a shoo-in for Science! My daughter got into her top choice with Desautels! Was the major entrance for the full cost of tuition and housing? Thats AMAZING! My daughter didn’t apply because her stats were not insane (She has a 3.97 u/w and 4.37 weighted but only a 1440 SAT). You must be so happy!!!

We are international (French) but attending a US High School. My daughter got into Desautels with a 4.37 weighted and a 3.97 u/w and a 1440 SAT. She applied in October, submitted first quarter grades in early November and was accepted in early Feb.

Good advice. And I also think to definitely submit SAT if you meet the “barième/minima”. I really feel like the more info the quicker the decision (and yessss..higher the faster). I have heard about USA HS IB students that didn’t submit SAT and had to wait for their IB diploma predicted points! In our case, SAT and GPA seemed to be enough for them to accept US HS candidate. (GPA 3.97 uw and 4.37 w with 1440 SAT).

Thank you for your information. My son(also international/Asia) applied to Desautels in October with a 1500 SAT and 42/45 IB scores and we are still waiting for the decision… Honestly, very stressed out from checking out the portal. But it’s a piece of good news that it might be possible to get an unconditional offer with SAT.

That looks like a sure acceptance for your son to me! Just a bit more patience since my daughter’s was only last week sometime. Your son’s SAT was 60 points higher than her 1440 and it was still enough. When did you submit your first-term grades? They didn’t even ask for our daughter’s predicted IB. Your son’s is really great so I’m sure you will get in! We are French but since my daughter is getting her HS Diploma from a school in the US I think it was quicker to get a reply. She is doing both USA High School Diploma and also IB Diploma and they seemed to have based the acceptance off of USA grades alone. She had her first quarter grades in November I believe and also took like 9 AP classes. I do believe that submitting the SAT for you will DEFINATELY insure an acceptance! The acceptance timing is really stressful…she applied to a lot of USA universities and it is SOOOOOOOO much easier with a “release date” (AND EVEN TIME)! But in the USA you could have a 1600 SAT and still not get in if you did not “excel” in extra-curriculars, leadership etc. McGill is really very stats-based and fair, so I’m confident you will get in very very soon!!!

Thank you for your kind comments! My recollection was wrong and he submitted his application in early November. They haven’t asked him any update but he submitted the interim transcript anyway in late December. If your daughter received the offer last week, we would probably have to wait for a few more weeks…?? Anyway, it will happen when it happens, I guess. Thanks again!

My younger son was accepted to McGill Desautels (and Faculty of Arts) this week, on 11th February, with an SAT 1560 and GPA 4.0/4.0. He submitted his final grades 26th January, so it took them about 2.5 weeks to make their decision. When my older son applied to McGill three years ago, they admitted him within 24 hours of him submitting his final grades, even though his stats were a little lower (SAT 1530 / GPA 4.0/4.0). I just spoke to my older son, who is now a third-year at McGill, and he said the admissions office is likely short-staffed because of budget cuts, so decisions are taking longer than in years past. Good luck everyone! / bon courage!

With that SAT you’ve got this! I too am very “foggy” with all her submission dates. All I know is that it was a whirlwind for her. The USA applications are extrememly long and she applied to like 15 or so schools I think. I might also be off on my dates but she basically had everything updated right after her first quarter report card so all the items were there for review by then..so I THINK early November, lol! So door to door that was 3 months give or take. I can’t wait to hear your good news!
