Hi! I’m applying to McGill University as an American. I have a 98 GPA weighted and a 1330 SAT. Should I submit my SAT score?
I probably would not, but it is not cut and dry because I believe Canadian schools prefer scores. Likely, you are 100 points below the average.
What program are you applying to? Admission cutoffs vary significantly depending on program.
What is your unweighted GPA?
I’m doing political science which is their faculty of arts department. My unweighted is a 95
For Arts last year, the minimums were:
| LAST YEAR’S CUT-OFFS |
|---|
-
3.3 average (unweighted) in each of grades 11 and 12
-
B+ in each English
-
ACT 27 (English & Reading subscores ≥ 26) or
-
SAT: EB Read & Writing 670, Math 620

700 in reading and 630 in math….what do you think? I just don’t want to do anything to hurt my application as McGill doesn’t look at extracurriculars or essays like other schools.
There is no requirements page for American students with non-letter grades, but for Canadian applicants outside Quebec (which seems like the closest comparison), the Arts cutoff last year was 90%… so your 95% unweighted sounds pretty strong to me.
I think your GPA is stronger than your SAT score, so I would lean towards not submitting SAT. That 630 math is uncomfortably close to last year’s cutoff.
I would not submit scores.
