McGraw Hill 10 ACT Math Question

Page 207 - #53 –>
If each element in a data set is multiplied by 3, and each resulting product is then reduced by 4, which of the following expressions gives the mean of the resulting data set in terms of x?
A. x
B. 3x-4
C. x + (4/3)
D. (x/3) + 4
E. x + (4/3)

The answer that i chose was B however, the answer key says that it is A. Read the explanation below:
The correct answer is A. For the sake of simplicity, let every element in the original set have the value of x. IF each element in the set is multiplied by 3, and then reduced by 4, each element then has the value of 3x-4. In a set where each value is 3x-4, the mean is 3x-4.

umm okay so it says the answer is A, then in the explanation it says that the mean is B (3x-4–which i originally chose). Is this an error on the books part or mine?

it’s an error

i looked over the mcgraw hill ACT book and it looks pretty easy.i’m thinking of maybe buying barrons.what do you think?

yeah its pretty easy i can get around a 34-35 composite and i’ve only studied for a few hours. English is actually kind of tough… I would still buy if i were you because you are getting 10 tests for under two bucks a piece and practice is practice.
