MCPHS Scholarship Help

Hey I am a senior in high school right now and I was looking at the MCPHS scholarship page. I know they offer a presidential scholarship of 10,000$ for students that get above 1800 SAT. But all these scholarships are only for US Citizens and permanent residents of the USA. I am a Canadian citizen who goes to boarding school in the US but I do not live in the US. Is it possible that I can get this scholarship??

If a scholarship says it is for American Citizens or permanent residents only…no, you would not be eligible as a Canadian citizen.

But if you are not sure, contact the sponsoring agency.

What is MCPHS…abbreviations aren’t always helpful here!

Based on the facts as presented in your post, no.

MCPHS is the Massacheussets University of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. I’m confused because one website says Canadians are eligible and the other does not.

Any help?

OK…is it Mass College of Pharmacy? If so, here is the info from their website.

The school uses the FAFSA only to determine eligibility for need based financial aid. You are not eligible to complete the FAFSA because you are not a citizen or permanent resident.

But if you are not sure, call them and ask. It looks like you woild not qualify for need based aid given by the school.

What about scholarships? Which do I quality for?

Ok…I dug a little deeper.

Apparently the school offers a very limited number of merit scholarships to international students. There is no criteria listed for these on the website. No special application is needed. These are awarded based on the strength of your application.

So…how strong is your application?

And how much do you need?

It sounds like you just have to apply, and wait and see.

I have a 4.0 GPA 1890 SAT Score. I’m taking AP Calc, AP Chem, and AP Physics and I have already taken AP Bio. I need at least 8,500 but I really want to get 10,000.

I woild think your SAT score would need to be higher…but I’m not making the decisions.

Just apply and wait and see. There is no other way to know.

It looks like your parents can float a huge amount for you for college a year if you are only looking for $10,000 a year from a school that costs $45,000 a year plus to attend. From what I’m reading…tuition and fees are $30,000 or so. Room is $5900 a semester…so almost $12,000 a year…and board is $1500 a semester or $3000 a year.

If your parents can pay $35,000 a year, have you also looked at colleges where that would be the cost of attendance…like any of your instate public universities?

Can you earn $4500 in summer and borrow $5500?
