MD or Ph.D?

Good luck and god bless. If you love medicine and people the rewards are great.

I think business people always make money, and it does not have to be ibanking. For law, I met a few people from top law schools like Yale at a party and they were fed up with their jobs, bright females doing lots of research in the background, not the rainmakers of their firm. I believe the firm is of one of those prestiguous law firm in Century Blvd, Los Angeles. My high school friend worked there as a paralegal and she said the firm received stack of resumes from top schools. so yeah, the grass is always greener.

UCgradmary,

Cheers. Believe me, if I were in it for the money, I wouldn’t do medicine. I’d probably go into banking or finance or one of the big international corps like Sony or HP (down in SD.) Medicine for me is a chance to do what I thought I’d get to do with my current career path (help people.)

Nobody told me that government doesn’t really help people. I had to find it out for myself.

Finding a fitting career…take 2!

My PhD in psychology was free, so if I didn’t make as much money right out of the gate it was ok. The idea of starting life with huge debt and especially in a managed care world, is unattractive imo. Malpractice insurance payments can be killers too.

I agree with post #17, why look at it as either/or, take a look at some MD/PhD programs.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. :)

She’s preparing her application to med now. I suggested that she follow her passions and feel lucky to have decent options.

As a professor in Biochemistry, I never NEVER advice students to go for a PhD instead of an MD if I were asked.

You can PM me if you want to know my reasoning.

You can do both. There are MD/PhD programs. I agree with Mollie though, you’ve got to love research to make up for the low pay and long hours.

UCgradMary, you must not know any architects.

Do what you love - hope it isn’t painting.
