Meal Point Rollover Questions

These are basic questions but I can’t seem to find the answer on the IU RPS website. If you don’t use your meal points (I-bucks) by the end of spring semester, do they roll over to the next school year? Is there any expiration date? I assume any extra meal points from first semester roll over to second semester, correct? And I assume you cannot get any refund on unused meal points, correct?

Not sure if this helps:

“Meal plans are always for an entire academic year and because of that I-BUCKS are added to a student’s account in two installments, one in the fall and one in the spring,” said Tegeler. At the end of each contract term – one academic year – any unused I-BUCKS go into rollover status, regardless of meal plan. However, discount amounts and time frames vary depending upon housing and meal plan choices for the following contract term.

For example, let’s compare Kate and Zach. Both are current residents in RPS facilities and each purchased a Cream Standard meal plan at the start of the 2011-2012 academic year. Kate chooses to return to campus housing next year and selects a meal plan. If there are any unused I-BUCKS on her Cream account when the current year ends (May 2012), she can use her “rollover” I-BUCKS during the summer of 2012 at the full 60 percent discount. If any of those I-BUCKS remain on her account in August 2012, the balance will become part of her new account for the 2012-2013 school year.

Zach also has I-BUCKS remaining on his account in May, but he elects to live off campus next year and does not purchase a new meal plan. His I-BUCKS balance will roll over in May 2012 and, like Kate, he can use them during the summer of 2012 at the 60 percent discount. He can also use them during the first semester of the 2012-2013 academic year, but his discount will decrease from 60 to 25 percent and his I-BUCKS will not be available after December 14, 2012.

First semester rolls over to second semester, and second semester rolls over to sophomore year until (I think) end of sophomore year. There are no refunds, so use them at the C-stores. Kids carry out cases of Monster, sodas, frozen meals, etc. etc.
