Meanings of Acronyms, etc.

Hello, I am new to CC. Has anyone compiled a list of frequently used acronyms or key words one is most likely to encounter on the boards?

I think I am getting a handle on the low hanging fruit e.g. HYSPM and BS, but others such as “bump” have me puzzled.

Thanks for any help,
TF

I’ve tried to figure out YMMV, no clue.

bump means to move the thread up so that more people will look at it. In CC, you sometimes see 10 char next to the word bump because CC requires at least 10 typed characters to be considered a post.

Other abbreviations are: dh- dear husband, dw- dear wife, dd- dear daughter, dd2- dear daughter number 2, and of course ds- dear son.

YMMV- Your mileage may vary- in other words, you may get different results.

The answers to all your acronym questions are conveniently compiled in a permanent thread at the top of the Parents Forum:

Aah, I thought the YM might be yo’ mama! ha. But I couldn’t figure out the rest.

I like your take on it better!

LOL…awesome! Thanks! OMG! 11 page link. And so many…geez, I feel like Rip Van Winkle…RVW :)

Just made this one up for helicopter parents: YMMM -Yo’ Mama Moves Mountains

dw can mean dishwasher, ds can mean hermaphrodite, dd can mean busty female.
Personally, I think W, D, S, are much clearer abbreviations for family members.

Context is very important. There have been stories told where I could not tell if “DD” meant darling daughter or darling dog.

^^^ You mean, “Darling Dog waitlisted at Mount Holyoke” isn’t believable??

I’ve always hated the the DD, DH, etc phrases. I mean come on, son is only one more letter and dau or something could suffice.
