From what I’ve read on different colleges websites, Mechanical Engineering is the broadest field, but also the most common. What is the job outlook for Mechanical as compared to more specialized field such as biomedical or chemical or petroleum? is it better or worse that the major is broader?
It’s neither better not worse. There are more people going into the field but there are also a lot more jobs open to mechanical engineers so it evens out.
Look up the Occupational Outlook Handbook by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Just Google “BLS OOH” and you should find it.
