MechE + EECS Minor & Music Minor?

<p>Is this too much? I’ve already decided that I want to do the EECS Minor because I might want to do EECS in grad school or at the very least the things I want to do have overlap in it, but here’s the Pro’s and cons for me doing Music:</p>

<p>Pros:

  1. I’d say that I’m a relatively decent to great Clarinet player, can hold my own in a wind ensemble class.
  2. Easy A’s to boost my already low GPA
  3. Need to take about half the classes needed for the minor for my humanities requirements anyway.
  4. Good way to get me away from my technical stuff for awhile
  5. May look interesting to some employers that I have talents beyond math and science, a relatable bridge for connections in the future or for future performance opportunities</p>

<p>Cons:

  1. Rough schedule where I might have to do summer school again (Incoming sophomore now) or take 4-5 technical courses in 2 semesters (when the average is 2-4), missing a summer for an internship or research.
  2. What difference does it make that I got the minor or not?
  3. Haven’t taken any music theory, so I can’t pass out of any of the 2 theory-related classes
  4. Might take away my time from getting good grades in my technical classes that matter.</p>

<p>What do you guys think?</p>

This is a bad idea.</p>

<p>Why don’t you just take 2-4 music classes (maybe not enough to fulfill the minor requirements) for fun instead of getting a minor.</p>

<p>Or, better yet, why don’t you explore MechE and EECS further and eventually settle on one of those areas to focus on. You can only go to grad school for one of those three areas (since EE and CS are really separate fields…). I mean, if you wanted to go to grad school for EECS and pursue an EECS career, why not single-major in EECS? Same for MechE.</p>
