MechE or EECS

Which should I choose? What kinds of stuff can I do with both and what are classes like?

If you like courses such as Physics 7A, the thermodynamics in Physics 7B, ME C85, and ME 40, then you may like ME.

If you like courses like the E&M in Physics 7B, EE 20N, EE 40, CS 61A, CS 61B, and CS 61C, then you may like EECS.

The [career survey](https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/Major.stm) can help you see what people in each major do after graduation.

^In other words, take some classes and then figure it out.

Indeed, as I said before, just take Physics 7A and see how much you enjoy it. If you really want limitless job opportunities at career fair, EECS might be better but you shouldn’t choose just based on that.

The only thing that stopped me from being EECS were the people in that major. There were some chill people, but I felt that a lot of them were very awkward. More so the CS than the EE kids. I remember some kid raged on another student for asking him a question that he could have googled the answer to. In his case, knowing the keyword to search for was the tricky part. Also lots of passive aggressive stuff going on.

^Meh I think EECS (as well as Berkeley) is big enough that you can find people of all types.

Maybe I’ve been lucky but I’ve definitely only met awesomely nice people in EECS classes. And the people with the most right to rage on people for ‘stupid’ questions (the people in HKN) have probably been the nicest.
