med schools

does being a black male help boost ur chances getting into med school. Im a freshman at dartmouth and im doing pre-med.

this term I did pretty well. next term im taking

Chem 5
Nueroscience
Enviormental Science Seminar
Calculus

Yes it does. The lack of certain minority groups in medicine is of serious concern to the overwhelming masses of medical school admissions committees, and being African-American is significant booster in admissions.

Continue to do your best, gain the right experiences and make yourself as competitive as possible: the rewards will be there.

I do not recommend taking four courses, especially Chem with its lab. The d-plan is pressured enough, and three courses is the standard. Really. Even if you’ve had calc before, there will still be a lot of problem sets, etc., to complete – time-consuming.

well im ambitious and im goign to do whatever it takes to get into harvard medical school no one and i mean no one is going to stop be from acheiving my dream

They’ll surely accept you when they see that you took 4 courses in one term.

It’s not that Harvard only accepts people who never took less than a full courseload, is it?

i think that was sarcasm

well i wouldnt take all hard courses in one term unless you have done it before and can still maintain a competitive gpa. is there a particular reason you have to take all those courses at once?

OP, no one has to “stop you” from attending HMS. If , Heaven forbid, the impossible happened and you DIDN’T get in, it likely won’t be because someone stopped you. IMO it’s not wise to have a goal that is not wholly within your control.

Control what you can control. Shoot to be a competitive candidate. That you can do. Good luck.

I don’t really see how that schedule is too difficult…seems pretty standard (although I thought that at most colleges, five courses was the norm).

i don’t see a problem with that schedule either

Dartmouth is on quarter terms. Trust me, this guy is not going to survive 4 heavily grade-deflated classes in one term. My friend tried doing that last year - and he made a B- in his Chem class.

Also judging from the way he writes, I’m going to predict that he gets a 3.0 GPA next term (conservative estimate too). Harvard is no walk in the park - and it starts with making smart choices with your class selections.

My mistake… I forgot that Dartmouth is on the quarter system

Wait, he got a B- ?!?!

…still not seeing the big deal.

^^ Although I do understand that it’s probably alot for the quarter system

CaseSpartan10, are you at Case? How do you like it so far?
