A University of Iowa medical student, Steven Arce, was dismissed from medical school for failing his MS1 classes. Arce then sold a AK-15 rifle and 9mm handgun to a known felon in return for the felon agreeing to kill Christopher Cooper, Associate Dean of Carver SOM. At one point during negotiations over the murder contract, Arce asked the felon to delay the hit on the Dean for 2 weeks so he could finished appealing his dismissal from med school.
Cooper was not involved in the decision to expel Arce; he was just the person tasked to deliver the news to him.
