Is media and telecommunications law an emphasis area in law schools? I’m planning on going into journalism, but the meager pay means I need a good back-up, and I’ve heard countless times that “law is the obvious back-up” for a journalist. Whatever that means…

I’ve heard of first amendment law, too, and was wondering if you could actually go to school for these kinds of things. I know a professor of media law, but he says that media law is just an extra class that a lot of law/journalism students take.

So… my question is basically, is there an emphasis area that I can get a degree in with media/telecomm law?

What schools offer these degrees?

And one more thing: If law school is so hard to get into, does it matter what school you went to? Best case scenario, I’ll be going to University of Missouri for j-school. Is that going to look bad against someone who went to some big prestigious school? U of Missouri may not be some big name college, but for what I’m studying, it’s a big name.

Thanks for any help
