I have a friend who claims to have gotten a perfect score on the SAT. However, its been several months (he took it in Nov), and I haven’t seen anything about it on the news. I know ACT sends out press releases for perfect scorers, not sure if SAT does the same as well.

I don’t doubt that he achieved such a high score, but I was under the impression that everyone would find out within a few weeks of the scores being out.

Most media are not interested in printing a story about a perfect scorer, especially if you live in a big city with a lot of competitive kids. The SAT doesn’t send out press releases like the ACT does. Even if he contacted media himself with the information, the story probably would not be picked up (this is from personal experience).

I don’t know about College Board’s policies, but ACT sends suggested press releases to the homes of students who earn perfect scores. It is up to the student to decide if he or she wants to submit the release to the press (generally only the very local press has any interest). ACT does NOT send press releases about perfect scorers directly to the media.

Our school district usually announces kids with perfect scores - either SAT or ACT. They will do press release and it will show up in the paper.

Yeah, I got a perfect score on the ACT and they sent me a press release that I chose not to send out. Two other students at my school got perfect scores on the SAT. One chose to send the press notification about it, and the other did not. He may have simply chosen not to.

I remember my HS called a bunch of us down to the office one day and it wound up being a photo session for anyone that got an 800 on some section of the SATs. It wound up just being a picture on the bottom of some later page in the local paper.

I figured that they wouldn’t send it directly to the media, though I know that our newspaper doesn’t hesitate in writing about SAT/ACT perfect scorers - pretty much everyone I know who has gotten one was in the newspaper.

So I guess the SAT just doesn’t bother giving the scorer a recommended press release…unlike the ACT.

College Board definitely doesn’t send press releases to the media about that, but your school should have received the score. I’d think that it would get around within a few weeks just by word of mouth, though, or maybe people at your school just don’t care. XD But yeah, the media probably wouldn’t care even if you sent them something.

alice.du: I think ~200/1million+ would be considered rare…? o_O

I know Grant Lin, the International President of Key Club International, got a press release story when he scored a 36 on his ACT.

But I think he got his big news flash partly because of his position as well, I mean, that’s literally the top of the EC ladder you can go - being head of hundreds of thousands of people in clubs across Earth.
