median numbers - chances?

i was just wondering if anyone knows what are the chances of getting into a top school if your numbers are at the school’s median i know you’ll have a “good shot” but just how good are we talking about.

Since the median means that half scored better and half scored worse, I would say you have a 50% chance.

but that doesnt mean the chances is 50% necessarily. For example , take harvard which i believe has medians of 173 and 3.85. eveyone with those numbers can get it, and it will not necessarliy affect the median as long as harvard still accepts enough people below and above those ranges. if anything i would expect a greater than 50% chance for a person with median numbers. this fact is what prompted my original question.
