Medicaid health insurance form issue - any knowledge?

Hi Everyone,

I’m sort of in a panic right now. Today I received notice from the Department of Human Services (DHS) that I need more proofs to give to my case worker about renewing my medicaid health insurance. By 12/20, they want copies of my bank statements, a full month’s worth of pay stubs, and an employer to fill out my employment verification form.

The problem is that I work at my university’s tutoring center and I’m 90% sure campus is closed now for break, so I can’t have anyone fill out the form until after Christmas. I just got the notice today, and I don’t even know who would fill out the form. Payroll? Financial aid? The tutoring center director?

I already called my case worker and left her a message explaining this, and I will try calling my university on Monday to see if anyone is there that can fill this form out.

But if campus is closed, what am I supposed to do??? On the notice it says that failure to fill out proofs in time MAY result in the cancellation of assistance, so is there a possibility that they WON’T take away my health insurance?

I think I took all the right steps, but is anyone familiar with Michigan DHS policies on things like this? I’m very worried and my parents don’t know what to do either.

Thank you so much.

I believe businesses offices may be open even when the rest of the university shuts down, so then can continue to process payments and payroll. Best thing is send the university an email now and call on Monday. Good that you are keeping social worker informed.

Just curious why there is this sudden rush.

At most university campuses I know, professional staff don’t typically get the same time off as faculty/students. Administrative/professional staff, IME, get Christmas, Christmas Eve, NYE, and New Year’s off. Definitely email your supervisor and call on Monday.

For employment verification, I would get your supervisor to do it (head of the tutoring center, maybe?) or perhaps payroll/HR could substitute.
