Greetings,

I had a medical conditional in high school (my doctor and school even signed a form giving unlimited absences) and I graduated in 2008 with a 1.9 GPA. While in high school, I took the SAT and got a combined math/reading score of 1300 or 1310 (can’t remember).

I was wondering which universities are lenient with students who have a low GPA due to medical hardship, but higher SAT scores.

I took a gap year after highschool and have been helping my mom through bankruptcy and divorce and also have been volunteering (over 400 hours with hospice and the conservation corps).

I have 8 years of formal instruction in piano, martial arts, and equestrian sport. Along with 16 years formal instruction in painting/drawing.

I know community college is a great option (I’m in california), but I would rather try applying as a freshman to a university first. So, again, are there any universities that admit students like myself? :/

Call your old guidance counselor, and make an appointment to sit down with him/her and consider your options. He/she should have some ideas for you and will know some college admissions officers who may be willing to take a chance on you.

Good idea…called and made an appointment for next week. I’m looking for basically any university, but I do have prefrences X-)

I was looking through the freshman admission stats and the average incoming freshman has a GPA of 3.8 and SAT score of 1202, while mine is GPA 1.9 and SAT 1310…I seem I have a very weird collection of numbers 8|

Oops- incoming freshman for Cal Poly*

Anyone know someone with similar circumstances who was accepted as a freshman to a university?

There are lots of threads about lopsided applicants, but not with gap years or medical conditions.

Cal Poly is tough…At Ca publics, GPA seems to outweigh SAT by quite a bit.
