So I’ve been debating on whether I should switch my major from Neuroscience to History. I want to go to medical school and I know it doesn’t matter what I major in, but how hard is it to do or get research opportunities and other medical extracurriculars if you are a history major? This is the main reason why my parents are not to keen on me being a history major. Any input would appreciated!

Can you stay in Neuroscience in the 1st/2nd year and get a research job during the summer? Then, you can switch. I doubt if research is absolutely necessary. But, you should post the question on premed forum. Premed requirement changes quite a bit. You should check if you can finish your degree in 4 yrs.

I’m not sure what year you’re in, but I think it shouldn’t be that much of an issue. It’s actually really helpful to take classes related to your research because it makes reading papers so much easier, but it’s not like it’s absolutely necessary. Also depends on the PI. I know when I was looking for a lab freshman year sometimes there was the issue that I had only taken 1 semester of chemistry (chem major) and they wanted people who knew organic chem, etc.
