I’m a high school senior considering going to an ungraduate institution where narrative evaluations are given in lieu of grades. The school is able to send most of its pre-med students to top med schools, but that’s given that the student body at the undergrad is extremely small.

How much is GPA a factor in getting into medical school? Would I have to have a brilliant application to offset the fact that I don’t have a numerical GPA?

Yes. But an accurate investigation of pre-med history at your chosen school can show you whether that is likely to happen. I would be very suspect of the numbers. Investigate thoroughly. Get names, get phone numbers.Call recent grads. Get everything you can and get comfortable. Or make another choice.

Sure… curmudgeon’s advice is sound. I’d probably just go to a school w/ a more traditional system to begin with; that way you don’t have to worry about it later.
