Medical school student needs a place to stay in Chicago for the month of June

A family member who is a medical school student will be doing a four week “away” rotation in Chicago at the medical school associated with Northwestern.

A place near the hospital is a must – looks like the hospital in question would be Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of finding a place to stay for four weeks in June?

Thanks for any tips!

Try the Facebook group “Gypsy Housing Chicago”. usually the gypsy housing boards are for short term sublets.

I’m assuming the student checked the away rotation site. Some offer lodging for these away rotations.

Since it’s June…any chance there is a college nearby that provides rental housing?

My 3rd year med school daughter says there’s a website to find such housing, she just used it for her May away rotation. I

I am not sure what the url is, your student could ask at their school.

This is one of the websites used for medical students looking for short term housing for rotations:

Your child might also ask around their expanded friend network, like the kids they went to HS and college with. My relatives did that to find places to stay when they did their rotations. The med school they’re at and the place they’re rotating to may also have suggestions, since they regularly have students rotating.

Thanks for the tips, I am passing them along!

Tried looking for a room in an AirBNB, doesn’t look to be much there, or on the CraigsList sublet list either.

There also might be some short term housing options in Chicago. My son used one for his student teaching there - the entire building was short term stays - anything from a few weeks to a year. But the location is pretty far away from Northwestern.

Our S used padmapper but was only looking for a longer term lease. I’m not sure if it may also have a section for shorter term rentals.

One thing that I have also done is stay at an extended stay hotel which provided continental breakfast and reception hour entrees and beer and wine (like a Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, etc.) It was under $50/night. It’s not ideal, but if you can get a really good rate for a weekly/monthly rate, it might be worth considering if there are any such venues near where your student needs to be.

The hospital is in Streeterville, a very high end neighborhood of Chicago. So most apartments close by are very expensive. If price is no object, you could search short term corporate housing.

Just saw this one additional website, https://www.medquarters.org. I don’t know anything about it but was searching for short term housing medical rotation.

Here’s another website, http://beds4meds.com/
