A friend of mine is in the midst of the application process with her son. He was accepted to the University of Maryland’s Civicus program (http://www.civicus.umd.edu/ (Links to an external site.)) and will be going to visit in a few weeks. They were told they could meet with a financial aid officer while they are visiting (they have already submitted his financial aid information). What should they expect at this meeting? I assume the officer won’t provide any information about his financial aid package yet-- so what is the purpose of such a meeting? Thanks in advance!
Did they request the meeting? Perhaps there is something they would like to tell the financial aid folks. That is possible too.
No, the family didn’t. It was just suggested to them when they scheduled the visit…
In a few weeks, the school could potentially have an estimated aid package ready for the student. It all depends on the timeline of when they decide to send out new student awards.
well…he is an accepted student. It is possible they can give them an early read on his financial aid.
It could also possibly be that the meeting was suggested (I’m assuming by another department?) so that the family knew there was an opportunity to meet if they had any questions. No guarantee the aid officer will be able to give specific package details though.
At my daughter’s college they encourage students to meet their financial aid counselor.
We met with one for a short time. They can talk about sources of financing, school scholarships, local job opportunities.
