Had the occasion to meet famous CC poster Ariesathena yesterday. Enjoyed the occasion. Anyone else met any famous CC folks recently?</p>
<p>How nice for you, dadofsam! I would imagine meeting Ariesathena would be a very nice occassion. </p>
<p>People on CC I would like to meet: Marite, DJR4, Kluge, several of “the dads/ a dads” that I keep getting mixed up, Berurah, Calmom, Xiggi, Soozievt, Fendergirl, Mini, Curmudgeon, Fountainsiren, and, of course, Ariesathena. I’m sure there are more but it’s hard to remember all the interesting “people” when I don’t see the usernames in text. Some of them I’d like to say “thanks” for a particular piece of information or advice they may have helped with; others I would just like to meet in person because they’re so interesting in cyberspace, or because their writing is so concise and compelling.</p>
<p>H and I had lunch with Marite once–she is as amazing in person as online!</p>
<p>When I was doing the grad school interview circuit last winter, I had a fantastic homemade dinner at mootmom’s house.</p>
<p>And I had a bunch of MIT '10s over for cookies and pie at the end of last month, and one of them brought Andison. After he left, I had to explain to my fiance that he’s extremely famous on the internet. :D</p>
<p>Dadofsam, just wondering - was she anything like you had pictured her? It’s amazing how people can turn out to be totally opposite. I imagine it’s like meeting an old friend when you finally meet a CCer.</p>

<p>I have a difficult time forming a picture of someone from their writing, and in addition here on the Internet people can decide what personality to put forward and may have the skills to adjust their writing to match it.</p>
<p>So I won’t say what picture I had of her, but I will say that I had pictured one feature correctly.</p>
<p>I also have met Greybeard. And I have had the privilege of seeing photos of Berurah and of her brood.</p>

<p>The only “famous CCer” whom I’ve had the privilege of meeting in person is DukeEgr93!! We shared an <em>excellent</em> sushi dinner, two large containers of sake, and wonderfully entertaining conversation. He’s an absolute delight, and pretty darn cute too, what with his adorable little chin cleft! 
When he accidentally spilled some soy sauce on the table and subsequently used his very talented finger to form the errant liquid into the shapes of various European countries, I <em>KNEW</em> he was “the real thing”!!! Who else but a Dukie would have skills such as THAT???

<p>Whoa! A girl steps away from CC for a day to explore the city on the bay and see the Scharffer-Bergen factory*, and look what happens! :)</p>
<p>It was really I who was fortunate to meet DadofSam in person (finally). He was part of the “old” CC that some of us ancients talk about sometimes, but the rest of y’all know only from archaeological remains in the archives. </p>
<p>While it’s difficult to picture someone before you meet him (unless, of course, their company posts pictures on the firm’s website ), there are a lot of things that simply are not a surprise.** Some speech patterns and personality quirks do come through in the writing… in fact, I did realize at one point that I should have been more prepared for DadofSam to act like, well, DadofSam, instead of an amalgam of people whom I’ve met over the years. Yes, it is difficult to predict what someone will be like in person, but there were a few moments when some of DadofSam’s posts suddenly got a tone, a cadence, and expression. A wonderful meeting. </p>
<p>As an alumna interviewer for my alma mater, I’ve met people in person whom I’ve only spoken to on the phone… and it does always surprise me, at least a bit, what people are like when you finally meet them. </p>
<p>I’ve had the privilege of meeting SoozieVT, DaugherVT, Marite & family, TheDad, TheDaughter (ma petite soeur), TheMom, MassDad & MassFamily, ConcernedDad & family, Dima, and LFWB Dad as well.*** I must say, it has always been a wonderful experience - not just to finally put a face**** to the screen name - but to spend time with such intelligent and warm people. I do wonder, sometimes, how a college discussion board that has so much of, “Omigod, will I get into Harvard with a 2370 SAT or should I re-take it???” is also filled with such insightful, caring people. </p>
<p>Very much wish that I had more notice on my San Fran excursion - would have been wonderful to organize a CC get-together. There are still many CCers whom I would love to meet in person - Berurah, LateToSchool (and her D), Carolyn, Slugg, Mootie, Sybbie, Over30 - to name a few. </p>

<p>I want to meet driver but only if she wears her tennis whities and arrives on a Harley. Then I will post the photo. Say, do you smoke cigars, driver? That could be a good look.</p>

<p>Next year I hope to catch up with robrym over on our side of the world. I’d like to meet momrath too. It sounds like she has a cool job.</p>

<p>I don’t know if robyrm still reads these boards. She was my son’s teacher in middle school and I’d met her kids, but our paths hadn’t actually crossed until last Christmas Day when we ended up at the same brunch. It was somewhat disconcerting (but in a good way) to finally meet someone one whom I’d “talked” to and “listened” to for so long – not in the least because she was wearing reindeer antlers!</p>
<p>There are plenty of others of you that I’d love to sit down and chat with. If you’re ever in Indonesia. . . .</p>

<p>LOL @ Berurah, you’re <em>always</em> going to be #1-ish, in that, there are exactly three people in this community who actually have my real name and all of my contact information, and you and Marite are two of those three. I <em>owe</em> Marite, as her very talented son helped us save a contract that was about to go sideways; this high school drop out was up against statisticians with ph.d.'s - I was NO match for them, can you imagine? I can attest with firm certainty that it is NOT possible to educate oneself to that level in < four hours via google. Probably that’s why people go to college for years and years to learn the stuff, huh??? But anyway the contract not only was salvaged, thanks to Marite’s son giving me enough substance to at least remain at the table and competent in the discussion, but is progressing quite profitably, for which I am very happy! I believe I’m going to quote an extension of the project with the same client by Q2 of next year, and it will be in range of a quarter of a million dollars. Don’t know if I’ll win the business - actually, I’m probably being very optimistic - but at least I’m solidly in the game. Your dinner with DukeEgr sounds like it was lovely - if I’d been there? I would’ve spilled everything all over the table, no talent of any kind to follow…if I ever meet CC’ers in person and the venue is a restraurant we have to chose someplace where the waitstaff is comfortable with small children spilling things everywhere lol, and hopefully there’ll be crayons, and a playground, and no one makes you eat all of your vegetables, plus there’s extra desert, and it’s all yummy. Your house sounds perfect, Berurah!</p>

<p>Doddsmom and Doddsdad got to meet Binx and family last year. Curmudgeon was at Centre’s admisson’s office this past spring when our son was there. No introductions though, he thought he would freak out his daughter and our son. :)</p>
