Mega Scoring

Some schools my son has looked at say their computer MEGA Scores between the ACT and SAT. I’m guessing that means their computer will convert his ACT verbal score over to an SAT equivalent and then that will be his SAT superscore. Is this correct? And if so, is it his English or Reading section on the ACT that they convert? (His English was a 29 but his Reading was a 23).

I’ve never encountered a Mega Score, but if you’re comparing tests, the ACT reading correlates better with the SAT CR. ACT English is essentially a grammar and usage test.

What schools are you talking about? If we, know, then we may be able to explain the policy better.

Pitt does this.

Georgia Tech does this as well, but they do it in an odd way. If you search for Standardized Test Scores on their website, you will see that they equate SAT Critical Reading with ACT English, SAT Math with ACT Math, and SAT Writing with ACT Combined English/Writing. They state that they do not use the ACT Composite score or the ACT Science or Reading scores in their evaluation process. From a psychometric perspective, superscoring in this way makes no sense, but I guess it works for them!
