Any experiences with the megabus? Mostly I am wondering how safe it is, what is the clientele is like? Certainly looks like an affordable way to get somewhere I need to go.

I’ve taken Megabus 3 or four times. Both kids have also taken Megabus, most recently to get home for Christmas. Usually on time but can be late. The bus was clean, wifi was spotty. How crowded the bus is would depend on the route and date. I prefer the train but have not had any real problems with Megabus.

Where are you going from/to? I live in NoVA and travel to NYC frequently, prefer Vamoose.

Our D uses Megabus to get from SF to Sacramento every six weeks or so. Very inexpensive. Usually right on time. She feels very safe.

I’m going from Cleveland to Ann Arbor Michigan. The train leaves at 3am and I don’t really want to do that. I only need to go one way, driving my mom from my house to my sisters and trying to find an easy way to get home.

Thanks for the quick replies, I knew I could count on CC.

My cousin takes it all the time from Ann Arbor to Chicago. No issues.

My s and d have been frequent users. Generally no problems, however my son’s last trip was terrifying (driver going the wrong way on the thruway), so he won’t use it again.

My son and daughter use it often to get home from Vermont and Washington DC, respectively. My son has had nothing but good experiences, but my daughter has had some bad ones, including big delays.

Some delays will have nothing to do with the fact that it is MegaBus and more to do with traffic that the bus encounters. Both kids have traveled on MegaBus and felt safe etc. But traffic is traffic, so a train is usually more reliable. Of course you can’t beat the MegaBus prices if you time it right.

Deb, my son’s GF has taken it several times from Toledo to Cleveland and vice versa. Usually arriving and departing in Cleveland in the evening though and not 3am!!! It is usually quite timely. Clean and comfortable ride. Also have heard of spotty wifi. She rode it back in the middle of a snowstorm earlier this year and felt pretty safe. If you need to know anything about the station in Cleveland I am happy to ask him. I know it is at least near downtown - not completely desirable but not awful either.

S and GF (and maybe me!) are planning to use it this coming semester as he will be in Chicago. He watches the fares and purchases round trip tickets for ridiculous prices. Has already booked 2 trips for only $1 each way - why not? If they don’t get used, no big loss!

I know a lot of people who frequent the Chicago-Ann Arbor route - they’re generally satisfied with the service. On this route, most of the riders are college students and young adults with a smattering of senior citizens.

Around here, the MegaBus is WAY more reliable than Amtrak, as far as on-time percentage goes.

Love it in Texas. It is extremely popular along college students.

My cute neighbor who is a “young” 60’s took it to Chicago with some of her girlfriends for a weekend - they were very happy with the experience! Very slight delays one way.

A “young” 60s here - and I’ve done the Boston - NYC route multiple times to spend a day museum/gallery hopping. Mostly college students on board. The wi-fi can be frustrating but delays have only happened when all traffic is delayed.

I’ve used it in the UK and it was fine - I’d definitely use it again

D uses it often to visit us (NYC to Philly). If she books far enough in advance it costs her a whopping $1.

Great reviews! Thanks!

My daughters use it to travel from their university over breaks. They have had good experiences. The best part is the price. The earlier you purchase your ticket, the cheaper it is. They have sometimes been able to snag the $1 fare.

I’ve always been impressed with the professionalism of the driver whenever I pick them up/drop them off.

MegaBus doesn’t have a station. That’s how they keep costs down. The use shopping mall parking lots, hotels, etc.

I take the megabus from Cleveland to Chicago twice a year, and have had absolutely no problems. It’s a long ride to Chicago, but there are almost never any serious delays. When I was coming home for thanksgiving this year, we hit a bad blizzard, and we were still only 45 minutes late. I recommend going with a friend, because the one time I went without a friend I ended up sitting next to a very overweight woman who took up way more than her fair share of space.

My only complaint is that they changed the Cleveland stop, so now we have to take the health line to get there from Case rather than the train. Not a fan of the bus, personally, but it’s not too bad.

My daughters have taken it between Boston and Philly…no issues but they stop on the street and not the station so you should consider that in case it occurs in the city you are traveling to
