Meinig Family Cornell National Scholars?

Hi,

Did anyone else receive this scholarship? I was reading through the program description, and it seems pretty cool. Is it prestigious? Is it compelling enough for me to turn down a full-tuition scholarship at UMich? Or Biomedical Engineering at Duke or Johns Hopkins? Do current scholars have any insight? THANKS!

If i were in your shoes and i wanted to do premed, I would take the full scholarship. If I were to give up and premed and go straight for one of the best biomed engineering programs, I would go for the JHU one.

If you are doing premed, always go for the one that give the most scholarship first. Not too sure about this scholarship given at cornell, but if it is less than 10k short of michigan’s full scholarship i would take cornell. Then again, it depends on which school you were accepted into in cornell, and which school you personally prefer (atmosphere, people, etc.)

Congrats on the scholarship! Just curious…how did you find out? Was it in your admittance letter or FA packet? Online or paper? THanks.

Thanks for the replies!

antiflamer: the cornell scholarship is more prestige than money–I think it replaces up to 4000 dollars in loans each year with grants. UMich is giving me 8-10 thousand a year.

momdoc: I just got an email about it yesterday.

Does anyone know someone who actually received the scholarship?

Can I get a bump?

that bit prestige won’t help you much in the real world. The money would help, but since it’s not that much more than what cornell is offering you, you should seriously consider JHU BME since you seem like you would enjoy / learn the most there (if that’s all the aid that umich/cornell is giving you). BME is very very rewarding if you are good at it.

I would love to study at JHU, but their financial aid isn’t the best, so it would end up costing my family around 35000 dollars a year for me to attend! Since I want to go to med school idk if this is the best “big picture” sort of option…
