Melting Down, Chance and help PLEASE

Hi all. I’ve been a lurker on the site for a couple months now, but haven’t really been freaked out enough to post until now. SATs came back today and… yeah, didn’t do as well as I thought. Guess my test anxiety is really rearing its head at the wrong time… ugh.

I KNOW I’m not getting in full blown (Summer program/CAP possibly?) with these stats now, but I was hoping some of you could help tell me exactly what I need to do to make myself more appealing. I’m obviously signed up for the next 2 SATs and hope to improve by 200 points ideally. What’s the easiest major to get into so I can apply for that? I’d like to apply for RTF/Journalism, but an internal transfer is WAY easier apparently, so just getting in for anything is my goal as of now.

And should I get CAPed, is that just what I should do (because I really hate Arlington and the thoughts of going there for a year) or is transferring from another university (most likely Baylor) just as good?

Please, please help. I’m really having a freak out as UT is pretty much the only place I’ve wanted to go ever since I visited. Tell me what I need to change to make that happen.

SAT:
Critical Reading: 690
Writing: 590 (should be so much higher)
Math: 520

GPA: 4.0 (the only possible issue is I’m homeschooled, so I don’t know what UT’s policy is on looking at that… or if they’ll even consider it much at all)

and my 2 essays are VERY good. Writing is definitely my strong point and, like I said above, that would have shown in the score were I not so incredibly nervous.

ECs: they said list EVERYTHING and be specific at Discover UT, so that’s what I did.

2 recommendation letters, 1 from an alumnus and 1 from the vice president of Baylor.

UT is a great school! Can you try taking the ACT in case that is a better test for you? That SAT math 520 is not looking good for UT. But you might get in or you might get in Freshman Summer Class, I really don’t know. I just wanted to post to say that if you love UT and you are offered CAP, go for it. You don’t have to go to Arlington; have an adventure and go to one of the other six participating schools. It’s just one year.

It is NOT just as easy to transfer in from Baylor. If you have signed an online CAP agreement, as long as you earn 30 credits during your freshman year and earn a 3.2, you’re in. If you are coming from Baylor, a 3.6+ will probably get you in, but it is not guaranteed.

Thank you SO MUCH Midwest Mom. I really appreciate your advice. I will do research on the other branches of UT, Arlington was just always the assumed school since I live in Ft. Worth.

Also, how different is the ACT? Should I really try for it even if all my prep has centered around the SAT?

ACT is pretty different from SAT, IMO… I took it yesterday and I feel like I did better on SAT (I got a 670,670,660 on SAT). The Reading portion of ACT is really FAST. There aren’t any vocab questions, aside from those in the passages. 4 passages, 40 questions, 35 minutes. Math is much like the SAT…but I think I did worse because it’s stamina…60 questions 60 minutes. If you can read and interpret graphs, you’ll be fine on Science. 40 questions 35 minutes… English is easy…really easy…easier than the SAT…75 questions, 45 minutes. And Writing is much like the SAT essay…only the essay prompts aren’t as good…(IMO) 30 minutes…

I just prefer the SAT. But my many people prefer the ACT and do a lot better on it… meh.

I tried? Hope it helped.

So CAP isnt for OS applicants?!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
