Memorial Day sale or wait for Back to School?

Hi, I’m hoping to buy a laptop before I go off to college in August. I was wondering when it would be best to purchase one…this coming weekend during Memorial Day sales, or to wait until summer/back-to-school sales.

I know Intel is supposed to release a new chipset soon, but I don’t know how expensive it will be or if it is worth the wait. They usually have some pretty good deals on Memorial Day.

I am planning on hopefully using the same laptop for 4 years, and spending 800-1000 dollars on it.

Thank in advance.

There will most likely be no cost uplift for Centrino 2. Oil prices are hammering the economy and there are other makers of chipsets out there.

Intel has been consistently providing better and better technology for less or the same cost for some time and they will continue that in the fall (I looked at their fall price list a few days ago).

I can’t say much for individual sale times, but it’s better to spend a fair amount on a computer that uses high-end (but mature) tech than to upgrade piecemeal. Best to time your purchase for when the newer, faster things come out, if you have the cash to support it.

I just read that Intel is having some problems with Centrino 2. I don’t know if this will delay their June launch.
