Memorization skills help?

For the SAT I feel like I should start memorizing a ton of words. I have a few books and about 3000 words between them all (not counting repeated words). Whats a good way to memorize these words in 2-3 months? I don’t want to forget them right after I memorize them so whats a good way to remember all these words while still memorizing all 3000 or so?

Study at night just before you go to sleep. That is the best time for memorization. (That is a scientifically-proven fact.) Re-read the words on the list that you have already learned at least twice a week. That review will lock the words into your memory. (That is also a proven fact.)

Remember that English words have many different meanings and they also suggest different emotional attitudes than other words that have the same literal meaning. We speak of denotation (literal meaning) and connotation (implied and emotional coloration of the meaning). Many SAT questions stress these second or third definitions of the word and reading comp often bases inference questions on the connotations of words. In other words, don’t just memorize flash card definitions. Once you learn a word, look for it as you read. See how it is used each time you run into it. Very often it’s use will change. You really should get a dictionary and read all the definitions of the word.
