"Memphis", the musical

I saw Memphis with my middle schooler’s drama club last year. I was a chaperone and it was my birthday so I got to go for free. My son loved the show and it inspired him to learn more about the time period. I was a little nervous at first that it might not be suitable for a 12 year old but he was fine.

Haven’t seen Jersey Boys yet but it’s on my list.

Rock of Ages was just ehh. I wouldn’t see it again.

My friend and I saw Baby, it’s you, which was great but I’m not sure it’s still playing. I’d see that again.

FYI…there is rarely a line for “same day” tickets at the box office for shows that have played for a while on Broadway – unless you’re in a same-day “rush” or discount ticket line.

The slight advantages of getting the tickets at the box office is that there are usually no service fees (which are sometimes up to $10+ per ticket if you buy online or over the phone.) Also, when we went to Billy Elliot last year and bought same-day tickets at the theater box office, I’m fairly sure we got those “premium” seats at their “regular” high price (not premium high price!)

I saw Memphis back in the spring on Broadway. It was fantastic and blew me away. Loved the show. Now the National tour is coming to my home town in a couple months and I have tickets to see that.

I bought my Broadway tickets at the TKTS booth in Times Square and only paid about $65 for each ticket. You can only buy tickets for that day of the show. Memphis usually has seats available. You can always download the TKTS app and keep track of what shows are available when.

Good point about the service fees. Each tickets show a price of $199.00, but service charges of $61.01 PER ticket:( BroadwayBox.com would have saved us about $38.00 for comparable tickets.

Next time I’ll hop the subway and go to TKTS Discount Booths…

Look at it this way, jshain, standing in line at TKTS would likely waste a couple hours of your time that you will now be able to spend doing something fun.

Just to clarify using broadwaybox.com or playbill.com does not involve standing in line, and checking for cancellations or tickets available at the theatre box offices is also not time consuming, for future reference.

Saw it in Chicago a few months ago. Amazing!

Saw it live …loved it. Saw it last night on TV and liked it. Problem for me was it lost the clarity of the music and especially the voice quality. Still enjoyable though.

Watched it last night instead of the Oscars! Really really good.

They had some “backstage” info after the show and I learned that the music was by David Bryan, keyboardist for Bon Jovi.
