I have heard this musical was terrific and thought some of you might enjoy watching tonight at 9pm on your PBS station. I am looking forward to something good on TV (since Downton Abbey is no longer an option!) this weekend while we get snowed in!

I saw Memphis in NYC last year. It was AWESOME.

I really want to see it.

Thanks for the heads up… Got it on my dvr now…

it’s also available on instant watch on Netflix

Thanks, I’ve been wanting to see this!

Current cast or original cast?

It’s the original cast. It was filmed a while ago.

Memphis is a good show. It started up the street from me at the La Jolla Playhouse. One of D’s friends was in the ensemble for the run here. I’ll have to set the dvr.

Showmom, it actually started back in 2003 with productions at the North Shore Music Theatre in MA and at TheatreWorks in CA about five years before the LaJolla production. This is one of those shows that had a long and winding road before achieving success.

This filmed version was actually done for release into select movie theatres last spring. It was great to see it on a big screen. It’s nice that PBS is showing it now. I hope they do it without interruptions. Good publicity for the current tour!

Thanks for the “heads up,” musmom2.

We saw it on Broadway last year. Before the curtain went up, S2 asked me if he could sleep on my shoulder during the show. The first riffs of music absolutely blew him away. By intermission, we were all speechless. It was FANTASTIC!

It was amazing!!!

We just saw it two weeks ago in NYC for my birthday. Since DD accepted job teaching in Mississippi, she has taken her dad to Beal St. and both of us to Clarksdale (MS). It made seeing the musical really special.

Thanks for the tip, it will be a pleasure watching tonight.

We saw it on Broadway last year as well. Recommended it to cousins from Chicago who later said it was their favorite among 4 other shows they saw on their NYC visit.

Too expensive for my budget. Premium seats for Memphis at Broadway.com were $327 each. Is there a more affordable way to get tickets online? We’re going to be in NYC next month and want to see a show. Probably going to see Jersey Boys instead, since the premium tickets are “only” $260 each.

I also saw Memphis last summer and loved it. The night that I saw it, VP Biden and his wife were in the audience also, they were very gracious and signed Playbill’s for everyone seated around them, but did not interfere with the show at all. Secret Service were all around but did not get in anyone’s way. There are generally discount tickets for this show available… [Playbill: Broadway, Off-Broadway, London News, Listings and Tickets](http://www.playbill.com), [Box | Simple Online Collaboration: Online File Storage, FTP Replacement, Team Workspaces](http://www.broadway.box.com), www.seasonofsavings, and www.theatremania are all good sites to check out for discounts.

I always check [BroadwayBox.com: free Broadway shows Discount codes for broadway theater tickets](http://www.broadwaybox.com)

You can buy discounted tickets from them, or you can just print out a coupon and bring it to the box office.

Another option - you may try TKTS Discount Booths, but it’s quite unpredictable. you never know which shows they are going to have tickets for on a specific day.

[TKTS Discount Booths](<a href=“Discount Broadway Tickets for On, Off & Off-Off Shows | TKTS by TDF | TDF - Theatre Development Fund”>Discount Broadway Tickets for On, Off & Off-Off Shows | TKTS by TDF | TDF - Theatre Development Fund)

jshain, Memphis doesn’t run anywhere near capacity on Broadway so it shouldn’t be difficult to obtain reasonably priced tickets. There’s no reason to pay for premium seats. Is there a reason you were checking only premium seats? Check the broadwaybox.com or playbill.com discounts or just check on telecharge for the dates you’re interested in. The other option is to wait until the day of, and go to the box office and check for cancellations. Even for popular shows like Book of Mormon, cancellations are going to be available everyday.

So happy to read this, Memphis is on our Broadway series for next year and it sounded great and now I have these terrific reviews!

Newstudentmom and alwaysamom, Thanks for the online info/links for tickets. Didn’t want to stand in line at the box office same-day. My wife purchased premium tickets to Jersey Boys (3rd or 4th row center) while I was watching Thursday night’s American Idol on my DVR. I’m sure we paid too much, but at least we’re getting two free nights at the Carlton Hotel including airfare from CA.

jshain, good for your wife.
You’ll love Jersey Boys. I know several of the actors who have been in the show over the years so have seen it several times. Your seats will be great. Have fun in NYC!
