mens pants

Thumper-- that may be. I am always telling him he has bird legs, he has very slender, toned legs and that is part of why the classic cut pants aren’t fitting him well-- very baggy around the hips and thighs, and part of it is the rise-- he wears his pants low on his hips and likes pants that are cut to be worn that way. I feel like he has a fairly small waist (for a man, not in general), but when he was a 32 (at some point maybe even a size smaller as his pants were getting pretty loose) I was starting to worry that he was getting too thin-- so he may just be built a little bigger at the waist, especially compared to the slenderness of his legs and hips. Mens clothing is a lot more complicated than I thought it was.

I think the Express suggestions are intriguing… their style is the kind of thing I see him liking and I don’t think he’s ever shopped there. The more youthful stores may be a good thing to try, he is trendy like that… very different from me in that way, so maybe I should lay off his floods. :stuck_out_tongue: I know he is interested in a pair of Alfani pants I found at Macys and the varvatos, and I found a jos a banks to try and a mall with an express, banana, etc. We’ll just have to go out this weekend and see what we find. I am tired of the crabbyness every morning when he puts on the black pants!

That may also be why he would need a relatively large waist size (for someone who is supposedly body building).

However, even if he wore his pants at the more usual level, he might still have a hard time finding well fitting dressy pants. Most off the rack men’s dressy clothes in the US are cut for “typical” older men in the US – meaning the opposite of body builders, athletes, etc… Button down or dress shirts that are too loose around the abdomen are a common problem.

There are some made to measure tailors that sell on-line – put the measurements into the order with payment, and then they send you the made to measure item. But if he is bulking and cutting, his measurements may change while the item is being made and sent. Also, if the measurements are not taken “correctly” (as in the same way that the tailor expects), the result may not be what you expect.

The bulking and cutting drives me a little bit nuts, in my mind its incompatible with his taste for expensive clothing… but it doesn’t seem like it always works out as badly as you’d expect. He gained enough muscle in his last cycle that it offset the weight loss from the cut and the same waist size still fit, although they hung differently when he was very lean. The 34s may still fit for a whole cycle if it works out the same way this time, I have no idea. I feel like he needs to develop a relationship with an excellent tailor.

Don’t worry about changing sizes. If he keeps up the yo-yo dieting (men call it “bulking and cutting”), his waist size will be going in a consistent, predictable direction soon enough! :)

If there’s a tuxedo rental shop nearby you might want to consider purchasing a pair of their rental suit pants, since almost all tuxedo shops also rent and sell suits. They will probably have to special order them from the manufacturer but they may also be able to sell you a pair out of their inventory.

The rental pants have adjustable buckles at the waistband that will cover 3 different waist sizes. For example, a 34 waist rental adjusts down to a 33 and up to a 35. These adjustable pants are perfect for body builders who need the room in the thigh but need to cinch in the waist.

Well, he lost over a hundred pounds from when he first started his fitness routine and has been doing this for over two years. He was very overweight and in poor health to start with. I think it’s stupid and that there are less extreme ways to go about it, but he does continue to get significantly leaner and more muscular and he eats an adequate number of calories when he cuts. I stay out of it. shrug There are more important things to think about… like pants length. :P

Well, if he’s lost 100 pounds, the only I’d say to him is: Fantastic and Carry On!
