Mental health assistance for students in the UK.

I was not sure whether to post this on the study abroad forum or here. However, I think I might get better answers on this forum.

My D is working on her masters in the UK. She had anxiety issues while in undergraduate, which she got under control. She is now going through a very stressful time and wants to get local help but unsure where to go. The school does not have a medical department or wellness center. She has gone to a GP for minor maladies during her time but not sure if this is who to start with.

If anyone is familiar with mental health assistance available to students in the UK, I would appreciate your advice. We did look into the NHS site but it can be rather overwhelming not understanding how everything works.

I live in the UK and am familiar with NHS. I would suggest seeing her GP first and being very specific about her symptoms. The GP can refer her to an NHS provider or a private care provider (if you are willing to pay). The GP can also prescribe medication if that is something that she thinks she needs. Basically, the GP should always be your first step as they act as the gatekeepers for all other services.

Thank you!
