Does anybody have much info on Mercersburg. Seems like great place, but terrible Ivy placement?

OP:

Ivy placement isn’t terrible, but many students choose other top schools in the Virginia/Maryland/D.C. area and the South. Even more popular are top liberal arts colleges (Amherst and Swarthmore particularly).

Mercersburg has actually sent a fair amount of students to Yale, Princeton, Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania. Also, the school has a very good record with the service academies, especially U.S.N.A., even without the post-graduate program instated.

I’m a recent Mercersburg graduate, so if you have any questions, please feel free to shoot in a PM.

Tokyo is correct. One big draw of the MAPL schools, in my opinion, is that there isn’t the “Ivy or bust” focus. There is a recognition that it is important to find the right college fit for EACH student, and the counselors aren’t judged on how many kids they help land in the Ivy League.

By the way, Mercersburg Academy’s director of College Counseling, William McClintick, is the president-elect of the National Association of College Admissions Counseling (NACAC). He has phenomenal expertise in the field, and he surely deserves to rise to that office. Mr. McClintick individually counsels about 1/3 of rising Mercersburg seniors, sharing the job with 2 other counselors.

Thank you MomofWildChild for nicely articulating that fact.
