Merit aid for 2350?

What kind of merit aid can a 2350 get? I have a feeling it isn’t high enough for schools like Duke, UVA, etc. So what are some schools that might offer money for such stats? Also, is being Asian an impediment? I’ve heard that some scholarships/aid are set aside for certain ethnic minorities, but I’m assuming URM.

I don’t know specifically about UVA merit, but a 2350 should be “high enough” for any school. Duke definitely doesn’t base theirs completely off test scores - I know kids with less than 2350 that got it and with greater than 2350 that didn’t. Vanderbilt, USC, and WUSTL are a few other great schools that may give merit scholarships. I know a 2340 actually that got full to USC and WUSTL. I know several lower scores that got Vanderbilt scholarships.

Lots of schools offer Asian American scholarships.

^Examples of schools with Asian American scholarships?

Here is a link to a list of U’s and colleges that give 1/2- full tuition scholarships to hi stat students.

Did you also take the PSAT? Did your score qualify you for national merit scholarship range in your state?

The issue is this…top schools like Vandy, WashU, and Duke (that give merit) do NOT base them on scores, since all their students have top scores.

A top score might get someone in the “review process,” but the down-selection process will involve looking at things that suggest that this is a student who will likely get accepted to HYPS …so the goal is to poach that student. Maybe the student is a high stats URM (particularly a high stats male URM), is from a state that has few applicants, or has something on their resume that is simply amazing (a successful business or invention).

@CaliCash What are the “lots of schools” that give Asian scholarships??

@supercilious What is your situation? Are you a domestic student? What is your major?

What are your parents saying about how much they will pay?

Are you a likely NMSF?

Hi @mom2collegekids, I’m from Mass (one of the most competitive states), obviously a US resident and citizen, although I hold dual citizenship (the other country being Taiwan). I’m a female ORM who wants to study liberal arts (maybe science); no hooks there. However, I’d like to think I’m on the way to being a “pointy” applicant: I’ve gotten national writing (essay, fiction) awards and am involved in a lot of writing-related ECS. Since I’m a sophomore, I haven’t taken the PSAT yet but I’m pretty confident I could become NMSF. Parents can pay full freight–they’ve saved the money–but I don’t want to make them pay so much money.

So did you get 2350 or you are projecting you can get 2350?

Lol. I got a 2350 @Madison85. I wouldn’t do something as stupid as project. My projected score was 2400

Are you a rising JUNIOR? IF so, then make sure that you take the PSAT in October. Speak to your GC.
