Merit aid for NON-honors students

I have read several scholarship posts but they all talk about scholarships for honors students…are they the only ones that they give merit aid to?

No they give it to others too. If you check the search for last years thread you will see.

I got pretty good money (Dean’s scholarship) this year but didn’t get honors.
So, no, even if you aren’t honors, you can still get money.

i got the same thing as bemyparaguay. are there diff levels of the deans scholarship or are they all 15000?

D just received her packet today, with the Deans Scholarship, as well!
She’s thrilled, and we’re very happy for her, as American has been a top choice of hers.
No Honor’s Program, but that’s fine–she wasn’t expecting to get into Honor’s, anyway.

^I meant Honors, not Honor’s :o

Yes, as the others said, it’s very possible to get scholarships even if you’re not in honors. I just received my packet today and I got the Dean’s Scholarship for $18,000, even though I’m not in honors.

I got my packet today. I got the Frederick Douglass Scholarship, but I’m not sure what that is, since I haven’t seen anyone else mention it.

The downside to all this is that I’ve got a little over $6k in loans - not counting FWS. :[

I also got the Fredrick Douglas for 15K.

Hmm. Looks like the Frederick Douglass isn’t a set amount. I got 10k per semester [Fall and Spring]. More money would’ve been nice, lol!

yeah, just to back up what everyone else is saying, i just received the Dean’s scholarship for 15k per year without honors

is a grant the same thing as a scholarship?

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL ! in this time of tight budgets…you should all be so proud for ANY money received!

Bridget~ different schools call them different things, but generally a grant is “free” money, not a loan, not needing to be paid back. it’s a nod at their desire for you, tho not as strong as a scholarship, which is bigger money.

thanks i was kind of confused
