Merit Aid MISTAKE!

I applied EA to NEU last week, and on my application…i selected that i dont intend to apply for merit aid. However, i did want to apply for merit aid. Does anyone know that because of my mistake, will I automatically be eliminated from merit aid consideration???

Thanks

I would call them and let them know. I submitted my EA application yesterday and it says already that it’s been printed off, so the sooner you tell them the better.

Yes, mine was printed off too. The thing is that I dont want to call them and say, “Oh by the way, I wanted merit aid”…i mean they havent even accepted me yet, and they would probably frown upon a mistake on the commonapp

I think you may be making this into a bigger deal than it is… when else are you gonna tell them that you want merit aid? After you get your decision when they’ve already given out all their EA merit aid? (You’re notified of merit aid when you receive your acceptance letter.)

You should definitely just call them. Tell them that it was a mistake. They’re not going to reject you because of something as simple as that.

Thanks everyone, im going to ask my guidance consular for her opinion. Also do you have to be at the top of admission requirements to get merit aid. For example, do people with higher grades and test scores automatically get more aid than a first-gen college student?

I’m relatively sure that merit aid is based on grades/test scores… perhaps first-gen goes into the need-based aid decision?

First of all you don’t “apply” for merit aid. You apply for Financial (need based) aid.

Merit aid is awarded based on … guess what? Merit. Grades, Test Scores, EC’s etc. and how badly they want someone with your demographics to attend their school. It is their way of discounting tuition so you will attend.

Financial aid is based solely on your family’s financial circumstances.

I understand tha you don’t “apply” for merit aid, however, on the commonapp there is a selection that states “Do you intend to apply for merit-based scholarships?”, and i accidentally selected no. Therefore,i will have to call/email NEU and state that it was a mistake, and that i do, indeed, “intend to apply for merit-based scholarships.”
