Merit Aid, University of Pittsburgh, class of 2028

2 of my friends got 10k per yr in state. One had 1540, 3.6-3.7 but with insane ecs, and other with solid ecs, 4 uw, and 1570. Both had 13-14 APs.

Were your friends accepted to the College of Business or a different college at Pitt?

My son got 10k this year as well, in state. I consider ourselves fortunate.

Thank you. Glad to see there is some merit going to COB students.

Anyone get a “Congrats on Scholarship” card in the mail? One came yesterday - merit letter was received in October in the portal. So curious why the card came now. I guess they just got around to it?

Same here - merit awarded on October 24, and card received yesterday. I thought it was a bit strange that the card didn’t mention the amount.

Same here. Anxiously awaiting notice of tuition exchange so we were slightly disappointed as merit notification was in October. Nice card though.

Same here. I thought maybe they’ve finished sending out merit, and were able to send all of the “congrats” cards in a single batch. @Sfa2024, we’re also waiting on TE notification. It sure would help!

I am still waiting on the official acceptance email and video, so

High stats, High GPA, 1540 SAT, excellent ECs - in state. only $2k / year. Math major. bummed it isn’t $10k! I think I am seeing higher trends other majors, didn’t apply until late Septmber or maybe October - maybe missed the early boat.

I did the very same, 1540 high gpa, research, etc, but didn’t apply till mid oct. Got 2k per yr for Computational Biology in state.

Anecdotally, high number in-state kids in our circles do not seem to be doing well with merit this cycle.

OOS. Applied late September. Admitted mid-October. Urban Studies major. Received 10k per year. Was hoping to bring cost to closer to our in-state (NY) price but knew it was a long shot. 1540. NMSF. 97/100 gpa unweighted. Converts to about a 3.8 (one or two grades were a 92). Significant leadership and extra curricular activities. 8 APs (can’t take til Junior year in our district). PITT is still in the running - admission to honors would make a difference. Good luck everyone.

Received the card yesterday, but there was no merit award in the portal. Finding it very confusing.

Does anyone know how the housing system works? Do we need to sign up now? Can we sign up before we put a deposit down?

There is no benefit to putting a deposit down early, Anyone who does it by May 1 has equal priority, you list your top 3 choices and wait and see.

Daughter received her acceptance a couple of weeks ago, but no merit in the letter. Haven’t received anything else in the portal. Does that mean no merit is coming? Or will they wait until they have Honors College decisions?

My understanding is the merit committees keep meeting long into the process, and can, if they choose, reconsider various cases. So, while the longer it takes the less likely it is becoming, you don’t know for sure until you get your final aid letter.

Pitt merit comes separately from the acceptance letter. It is possible to receive merit up until March 1. If you don’t hear anything by that date, you haven’t received any merit. They only notify people if they get merit. There are no letters sent to those who don’t. Of course, some students may separately get need based aid and will receive notification about that.
