Merit aid

Any chance that Notre Dame gives merit aid?

According to all info posted on ND’s sites, ALL aid is directly tied to financial need. In other words, you must demonstrate financial need, first. If you or your family cannot demonstrate need (perhaps your family has saved significantly for college or income level is too high), then you will have little or no need. And therefore, no aid (merit or otherwise). However, there have been some posts that indicate that this is not necessarily so. You can try searching this forum for other posts about merit aid. I would also ask pointed, direct questions of the admissions/financial aid office about this.

There is the Hesburgh Scholars program which is directly tied to merit without any influence of financial need. It is a new program…not sure of deadlines. Again, try searching ND sites for info about this program.

Maybe others would care to comment?

As ndAL indicated, Hesburgh-Yusko program is a merit-based (as in not financial need-based) scholarship program introduced this year. It is by invitation only. Consists of an application (which they will direct you to in the invite); shortlisted semifinalists are interviewed (phone) and shortlisted finalists are invited to the campus to pick the eventual awardees. My daughter was invited to it and she didn’t make it past the interview.

[Selection Process](http://hesburgh-yusko.org/selectionprocess.aspx)

As is indicated in the process, one must apply and be offered admission EA to even be considered for this.

Thanks. Son attends a Catholic High school so I’ll check to see if they are on the list.

I don’t know about the schools list. My daughter attends a public school and we are not even Christian, let alone Catholic. Her school did not send the recommendation (they are not even aware of it). I guess she just received the invite based on her stats and other info provided in the admission application.

BTW, my daughter decided against going to ND.
