Anyone have any experience with aid (need or merit) at University of Michigan and University of Virginia?
UVA has Jefferson Scholars, but it is highly competitive. They meet full financial need, but they do not count grad school as having two in college while some other schools that meet full need do.
Have you run the NPCs at all? For us, Univ of Michigan is very generous with need based aid. The net price comes out to be several thousand dollars lower than our in-state flagship’s price. Unfortunately, our son would never be admitted. They are just too selective.
I did run NPC for both schools. For UMich, it said about 8K when I had 2 kids in college, 0 otherwise. I believe NPC is only for need based aid. Not sure if they give merit aid. I’m under the impression that these top state schools give very little to OOS.
Neither give much merit aid. What there is is competitive and not generally “a lot” compared to OOS costs.
UMich does give merit aids. There are around 15 full rides and a couple hundreds or so large scholarships. For LSA, the large scholarships are $5000-$10000 per year for in state and $20000 per year for OOS. For CoE, it is $8000 for in state and $20000 for OOS. There are also other merit scholarships such as Belle in a similar caliber plus some smaller ones too. To get the large one, you need to be among the top 2% or so admitted students.
Merit at UMich is extremely hard, My D has SAT 2270 and $0 offer.
