I’m a freshman at the University of Florida. As a senior in high school I didn’t apply to any out-of-state universities partly because I didn’t want to face rejection and partly because I doubted I would be able to afford an out-of-state education… and I’m regretting it now.

Realistically, what would be the chances of transferring to Columbia after I finish my first year and receiving merit or financial aid?

My high school GPA was a 3.9, ranked 6/300, 31 ACT.
My college GPA is a 4.0 from Summer B, and judging by how the first few weeks are going I think it’s possible for me to get a 4.0 for the fall semester.

I’m a really active person, but just starting to get involved. I just dropped my fraternity so I could focus on other interests. I’m looking to join around three or so clubs that I’m really passionate about (Model UN, Czech-Slovak Connection, etc.)

My major is International Relations and I’m minoring in Central European Studies. The main reason I want to transfer to Columbia as opposed to other schools is because I believe Columbia has the strongest Slavic Studies program in the nation, and even offers courses for the Czech language, which is really important to me. It’s a unique area of study that not many schools offer. I think Columbia fits my interests perfectly.

Assuming my GPA is between the 3.85-4.0 range after freshman year, what do you think my chances would be?
