Hey! So I was accepted into the Integrated Business and Engineering Honors Program. I am beyond excited. My question though is that, being in a selective program like that, makes me wonder if I am getting any merit money? I did not apply for financial aid, because we weren’t expected to get any money. When would I found out about the Merit Money? Also is
…ALICE P. GAST STEM SCHOLARSHIPS: Former Lehigh President Alice P. Gast believed deeply in advancing women in STEM careers. As a result, she established a fund to support the ambitions of young women interested in pursuing a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) field at Lehigh. Awardees are provided with annual support of $12,500 for tuition and research-related activities in STEM fields. Continued enrollment in a STEM field and a grade point average of 3.0 are required to maintain this scholarship.
…a new scholarship? I don’t remember hearing it. Does an IBE student qualify? Because I applied ED do I no longer have a chance?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Wow! Corngratulations! I think that is one of the most challenging and prestigious degree you could get from Lehigh.
I looked up merit aid in the course catalog and you are correct that it is very unclear if you have to apply for this scholarship. I know it might feel awkward to call and ask about an award. So, I will call tomorrow and ask Lehigh for clarification.
You will make an excellent engineer with your attention to detail!!!
@kikkydee THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Hi, I called the main switch board today and asked who I would talk to about the Alice P. Gast Scholarship. She said Admissions and connected me. I asked the Admissions receptionist and she said every applicant is automatically considered for that merit grant. So, I am sorry to say it looks like you didn’t get one.
However, remember you have gotten into a really fantastic program. You are not going to believe the jobs that are going to be available to you. And coming out of school, I feel pretty confident to say, you will be earning way over your industry averages! Really.
Just make sure you get a small research job with various professors while at Lehigh. You can get great research experience. Also, please try to stay at Lehigh for Sophomore summer to do research. My son also took summer school classes while he was Sophomore summer. And then plan on getting an internship Junior summer. That can easily turn into a job offer by September of your Senior year.
Congratulations again!
Alright thanks! I just wondered when I would find out about merit money! It’s all fine, though :). And AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS I WILL TAKE YOUR ADVICE TO HEART! REALLY THANK YOU!
