I plan to major in graphic design. Minor in music.
Two of my three recs are awesome. The other says “he” instead of “she”…yeah…

You are obviously a very, very qualified candidate for any top school. Your rank is beautiful, you SAT’s are awesome, and your EC’s show you are a well-rounded individual. Why sell yourself short, when you could get into several of the ivies/top private and publics? If you like the DC Metro area, try Georgetown or UVA. If I were you, I’d try all of the Ivies, because honestly, I don’t know a single school who would pass up a girl with 1500 SAT’s and ranked number 1 in her class.

At the most selective schools (Ivies & similar), these stats would get the applicant a serious look, but are far from making admission a sure thing.

Those are indeed great stats, though, and there are probably quite a few schools that would respond with good merit money. Usually, it helps to be in the very upper echelon of applicants for a particular school - they want to spend their merit money on students who will boost their numbers.

thanks! I am applying to a good range of schools, all of which I’d love to go to, I think. American, University of Delaware, Penn, Princeton on a long shot (mother’s dream), TCNJ, Peabody conservatory, Carnegie Mellon

isn’t it a 1480? unless my math is wrong ;)

yeah, M and CR are 1480. If my math were my writing, it would be a 1510, but too bad!

After reading your resume, I was surprised to see you plan to major in graphic design. None of your EC’s indicate any interest in art. Did you leave anything out?

If I understood correctly, and you do plan to focus on graphic design and music, your choices have good programs in what you want (except I don’t know anything about Princeton’s GD program).

However, you may also want to take a close look at WUSTL and perhaps add it to your list. Maybe even, for a merit money play, look at Boston University, which is strong in these areas.

it’s interesting. At almost every school I want to do something different. I’m very undecided. I haven’t had the chances to get into an art class, but it’s a huge hobby that I would love to really get into.

Actually it was probably silly of me to suggest new schools at this point, since applying now would be difficult.

But if you haven’t had the chance to do art yet, how did you apply to CMU for a GD major? Didn’t you have to submit a portfolio?

I was going to but I didn’t have the time…I’m applying to music for composition and computer science :D
