My son just got 20,000 a year (Swanson - out of state) THRILLED!
My D just received her merit offer. (80k) 20k/yr. Swanson. 3.92/ 4.39w. 1490 SAT OOS.
Iām sharing this because I appreciate others sharing their info. But I am also reluctant to share because I donāt want people comparing their stats and going down a very stressful rabbit hole. As we know, there is more to a studentās application than general stats, plus all colleges have their own instructional priorities.
I hope Pitt is generous to everyone and I am so proud of all the kids who have worked hard to be admitted and considered for merit. Hopefully, my D and your kids will be friends.
For all of those waiting, donāt be impatient if you donāt see merit appear right away or within some number of weeks after admission. Merit can appear at any time between October and March, even if a student is admitted early.
Good luck to everyone! ![]()

Daughter applied TO - received $10,000 per year, Nursing ![]()
What does TO mean?
Test optional ![]()
Thank you! I was racking my brain and coming up with nothing.
I am pleasantly surprised with what Iām hearing here ā OOS state merit of $10K or $20K per year is more generous than I was expecting.
Will cross my fingers that my D26 gets something as well! ![]()
Daughter received her merit offer today - $10k per year for college of computing and information. She has a 4.0/4.3 U/W GPA, 14 APs, and 1450 SAT, 33 ACT. Applied end of September. Good luck to everyone!
Do they release merit letters every night like they do acceptances?
In the past I believe these decisions have been released in weekly batches, but it could be different this year.
Daughter received 10k/year (40k total). Dietrich. SAT 1520
D26 also received $10k/year for Dietrich (OOS). Similar stats to what others are reporting. Application completed 9/4 and acceptance received 9/24.
For those that already received Merit, how were you notifed?
Thatās what I am wondering as well. Did you get an email and the information was in the portal?
My daughter got an email saying there was an application update. She logged into the portal and there was a link to a scholarship letter (PDF) where the details were.
It seems Pitt is being more generous this year than past - or all the merit winners are on CC ![]()
I wonder if, given other schools going deep, they have found budget to compete.
Perhaps the price increases are starting to price kids out of the market - which in this case is a boon for Pitt applicants, to make prices competitive with others.
They used to say you needed a 33 ACT to get merit - but there was even a TO applicant listed here.
So reading the thread, it seems like itās gotten better!!
To me it seems normal or maybe a little less generous. Swanson awards normally go up to 20k. Last year many Dietrich students were posting 15k/year, but the Dietrich awards listed above are 10k, so itās possible the awards have decreased or maybe there will be some 15k awards to come. Test optional students are eligible for merit, and we see some TO students receiving merit every year.
Thatās the big change to me - in 21, when we applied, they specifically stated a 33 minimum. My kid got none - had a 32 - so werenāt surprised.
By the #s (in the CDS), thereās not many - but then many here are posting they got so thatās why I wonder if theyāve gone deeper, at least quantity wise.
Itās been a while since 2021; I will guess that maybe you havenāt been keeping up with the Pitt merit threads?
Itās natural for the crowd on CC to report more merit than the CDS might suggest, since many here are OOS high stat kids.
