<p>Does anybody know how “prestigious” being awarded one of the National Merit $2500 Scholarships is considered to be? I know Finalist is a big boost for lots of other opportunities, but is being selected out of that group for the Merit Award even more of an asset to applications? I got the feeling from my counselor that most people don’t know the difference between Finalist and Scholar so it wouldn’t really matter.</p>
<p>I think scholars are chosen sometime in late March (I was notified on the 26th), so the award will come too late to be considered as part of your college application. As for prestige, I really have no idea.</p>
<p>Its not more of an asset, just more money in da bank.</p>
