I’m an EA admit but am not feeling very confident about my financial aid prospects, so I’d like to bolster my chances for a merit scholarship as much as I can. On UChicago’s website, it says about merit consideration: “Also, you should feel free to supplement your file with anything that will allow us to better understand your strengths.”

Does anyone know the address I should send my supplements to? Also, is there a special way I should send them (like addressing the envelope “Attn: _________” or writing a letter explaining what my supplements are and why I’m sending them)?

ETA: Actually, after a search on the Chicago forum, I found this thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/807520-anyone-ever-received-merit-scholarship.html?highlight=merit+scholarship) that implies that I can no longer send in a merit supplement if I’ve already submitted my EA app. Is that correct? :

Nope. I’m in the same boat as you, and I asked Grace (UChicagoPSAC) and she told me to include the supplements with my mid-year report. I would suggest you do the same. However, not sure if we indicate that the documents are supposed to be considered for a merit scholarship.

Thanks for your help!
I’ll probably send my supplements with my mid-year report, then. And I’ll ask my regional counselor for clarification on whether there’s anything special we need to do when we send our supplements in. I’ll tell you if I hear any new info.

If you have additional documents, include them with your midyear report. A note, though, guys- please do not send large volumes of extraneous material to supplement your application; it is really not necessary at all to send in information to boost your chances, as the strongest portions of your application looked at will be the materials involved in the application proper. If you have an additional essay that you think really defines you, or were recently published in a scientific journal, won a major award, etc, please feel free to update us with this information- but please do not feel pressure to send in a number of extra essays or the entirety of everything you’ve ever done in order to boost your chances.
