Messed up in high school... chance me?

Half-Jamaican, half-white female from WA
3.41 cumulative UW GPA. Started high school with a 4.0 and had a negative trend due to medical issues in 10th & 11th grade. Senior year is looking like a 3.8 - 4.0 though

Parents’ income is low enough that they won’t tell me lol. I think it’s less than $25k
Travel to Jamaica
3 years of Spanish with straight A’s every semester
My counselor loves me and she can write good recommendations especially for explaining my grades.
Working on essays, I think they’ll be really strong. I also have an application & essay reviewer/editor.

Going into science/engineering with foreign language minor

Applying to:
University of Washington (going to be tough I’m sure)
Washington State University + possibly honors college (#1 choice)
Western Washington
Oregon State
San Diego State
University of Idaho
maybe Arizona State

Also open to more suggestions for colleges. I’ve only looked on the west coast but I’m open to other options :)

If your family income is low, you must deal with how you will pay for schools that don’t offer much aid. Have you run the NPCs for those colleges, to project fin aid? Chances are that the out-of-state schools will be more expensive than your home state, offer less financial support. Only checking their NPCs wil give an initial projection. Your freshman loan possibility is only $5500.

I have not really been worrying about cost too much, I have relatives willing to help and I am looking at scholarships (especially minority). Plus my mom just got a full-time job starting in January that will probably triple our current income. Of course I am more inclined towards Washington schools for their financial aid but I am not completely writing off OOS. Idaho’s tuition for example will end up being about the same as WSU’s after an automatic scholarship.
